Before founding RockLove, Allison was a musician, dancer, and theatre performer. In this scene, when two artists across disciplines were mutually inspired to collaborate, they earned the nickname “rock loves.” Be it music, dance, acting, writing, filming, producing, and more, it was the term used when creatives found mutual appreciation for each other’s talent and united to forge something exceptional.
Prior to the creation of RockLove, Allison studied precious metal jewelry craftsmanship in Florence, Italy, through a study abroad while in school at Oberlin College. Under careful tutelage in this old-world style of apprenticeship, Allison was able to not only hone her skills, flourishing in the lost wax casting method, but also fuel her passion for history and ancient smithing techniques.
Following graduation, Allison began her career in the Diamond District of New York City to learn the business side of the industry, and how her intimate knowledge of construction could elevate a brand. Equal parts artist and entrepreneur, Allison continued to meld her love of storytelling with her appreciation for antiquity in her jewelry creations; RockLove was born. With ideas rooted sentimentality and nostalgia, she intrinsically dreams up her next best-selling design (quite literally – a sketchpad rests beside her pillow) and applies age-old techniques with engineered articulations to develop a unique and highly sought-after signature style within the licensed jewelry segment.
From celebrities wearing RockLove in magazines and music videos to the British Museum carrying her exclusives in their gift shop, RockLove has been hitting all the right notes in handcrafted sterling silver since the beginning. It was not however until CBS called upon Allison to create a line of Star Trek jewelry in 2014 (a passion project of hers, having been a Trekkie since age seven) that propelled her into the current licensing deals that have brought RockLove center stage. With an ever-expanding repertoire of franchises, which now include halo lines Disney X RockLove, Marvel X RockLove, Star Wars X RockLove, Pokemon X RockLove, DC X RockLove and more, RockLove honors these beloved franchises through sophisticated and clever design, with authenticity and artistic integrity as the foundation of the brand – a cornerstone since Allison only creates collections for which she is personally a fan.
Allison has made significant impact in the expansion of jewelry in the licensing sector, and with a firm belief in the inclusive nature of jewelry, she has taken the industry full circle. Pushing back on expectations that jewelry is a predominantly women’s category with dainty silhouettes, Allison continues to design collections in a wide range of sizes and neutral styles while encouraging fans and industry insiders alike that jewelry is a gender inclusive opportunity of expression for the fandom industry.
Today, Allison continues to explore the evolving relationship between fashion and fandom and speaks frequently about the licensing industry and her efforts to marry these values with elevated design.
